So, we are writing 2009 and i don't even know where to begin.

Shame on letting this blog to waste as i read the other day somewhere there are over 1 million orphaned blogs.

The story about Helsinki Times is that indeed what once started out as an idea for a source of english language news - in a blogged format - ultimately became the largest English Language Newspaper in Finland with a weekly print circulation of 15,000 copies.

Now I might be mistaken, but to the best of my knowledge our little old Helsinki Times blog might very well be the only blog in the world that turned into a newspaper instead of the other way around.

From Newsroom Finland, Helsinki gets avatar-based waste bins:

"Helsinki city council said Monday it would introduce talking rubbish on this year's Night of the Arts, part of the Helsinki Festival, an annual fortnight of culture events that kicked off Friday.

The bins, which look like the standard mum variety in order to surprise passers-by, feature greetings recorded by council management, artists, philosophers and comedians."

Press release 286/2008 from ReliefWeb: After having agreed about the matter with Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Paavo V?yrynen, Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb announced in the meeting of the EU Council of Ministers in Brussels today that Finland is prepared to provide support for humanitarian assistance of civilian victims of the crisis in Georgia up to the amount of one million euro. At this stage, the plan is to channel the assistance primarily through the International Committee of the Red Cross, ICRC, the Finnish Red Cross and the UN relief agencies.

"Two men pulled off a daring armed robbery at a Sampo bank branch in Toolo, Helsinki Monday afternoon. Police were notified of the attack at about 2.45 pm and were said to be pursuing the perpetrators."
